Many of our Utah Storage Center locations are in more urban areas of Salt Lake County, Davis County, and Weber County. Many of our tenants live in apartment-style housing. This is a benefit of living in Utah, as there are lower maintenance costs, convenient locations, and all-inclusive rent, meaning less money spent on “surprise” events. But with apartment living come some unique challenges.
Some common challenges of apartment renters are the limited storage space, having roommates and sharing space with others, and limited parking options. This is why renting a self-storage unit can benefit Utah residents in various ways, especially when downsizing to a smaller living space.
Privacy & Security For Precious Keepsakes
While living in an apartment, there is limited space for you to use, especially when you have a roommate(s). Some things have great value to you, but you may not be able to access those valuable items as often as you would like. You could have prized family heirlooms that you may not need living in an apartment but that you would like to continue to hold onto as keepsakes.
You also may want to ensure the privacy and security of such items. For this reason, having a storage solution at your disposal would allow you the privacy and security you would want for those things you hold near and dear to you. Having your own space and having your own lock and key would provide that comfort to you as you are living with roommates.
Reclaim Some "Garage Space"
One common complaint with renting or owning an apartment is that there is no parking space for their vehicles. Especially those that may have multiple vehicles or specialized ones that they don’t drive on a regular basis. Renting a storage rental space can solve that dilemma. You can rent a storage space large enough to fit one, or even two vehicles, in addition to other items you may have lying around the apartment. This would keep the vehicle(s) out of the elements and into a secured location that you can access as needed.
This can be especially helpful when you may not use a car or truck as the primary means of travel and instead prefer to bike or take public transportation around town. The convenience of a local self-storage unit can be beneficial to suit your lifestyle needs.
Leave Room for Hobbies
The limited space of an apartment may make it difficult to indulge in your hobbies. For example, my partner loves collecting all sorts of tools and knickknacks. To accommodate such an eclectic hobby, having a storage unit has allowed him to keep up with his hobby while also not impeding on our limited apartment space. It has kept our closets more empty and organized and has kept a happy wife in the process.
Other exciting hobbies may include camping, kayaking, biking, car restoration, or even thrifting. Whatever the hobby may be, a storage unit space can aid in the continuance of the hobby while you live in a place without enough space.
Enjoy a Clutter-Free Space
One of my personal favorite uses of a storage unit is to declutter our home by keeping all our non-essential and seasonal items packed neatly away within it and out of our living space. With limited closet space and few smaller bedrooms, Having a storage solution to keep items easy to access while simultaneously keeping things neatly organized is a wonderful reason to have a storage unit while living in an apartment.
The quote “All things have a home” comes to mind as I think of organizing my apartment and my life. So allowing space for your items to have a home is essential.
Considerations for Choosing A Storage Unit
Before renting a storage unit to make apartment living more manageable, be sure you’re thinking through the following.
1. Location
Find a reputable place with positive tenant reviews. Not all locations can guarantee a 5-star experience for each customer, but reviews of the locations, self-storage facilities, and employees are strong indicators of a good storage facility location. And of course if you’ll need regular access to your unit while apartment living, you’ll want it to be easy and convenient to get to.
2. Gate Hours & Accessibility
Access hours are an important factor to consider when choosing a storage unit. Our storage locations at Utah Storage Center all have specific gate hours instead of 24-hour access. This allows better security measures than options with 24-hour access. Be sure to keep an eye on when gates open and close so you can plan accordingly when to access your belongings.
3. Security
When choosing a storage location, security should be top of your list. Security features to look for are surveillance cameras, on-site staff, and electronic gates. If you want to know what our facilities at Utah Storage Center have to offer, contact the manager for those specific locations’ security features.
4. Reviews
Reviewing a storage facility’s reputation is also a great way to find a good storage option. Looking at recent reviews of a property can help you identify specific questions to ask and things to keep in mind, such as cleanliness, customer service, customer feedback, and more.
Living in an apartment community does not mean you need to skim on personal space or belongings. Renting a storage unit can be a cost-effective option as you navigate small spaces, roommates, hobbies, and other storage needs.
